Since the 1970s, the Doreen Nelson Method of Design-Based Learning (DBL) has been transforming classroom education. DBL unlocks the natural curiosity and creativity of all K-12 students. Discover how we’re building a brighter future, one student and one teacher at a time.
The Center for City Building Educational Programs, a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit since 1974, is committed to training K-12 teachers in the powerful Doreen Nelson Method of Design-Based Learning. Our journey began with a vision to create better educational prospects, and for decades, we’ve empowered educators and students by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and a genuine love for learning.
DBL is a dynamic, hands-on K–12 methodology that makes learning active and effective. Students solve real-world problems by designing and building unique solutions—truly learning by doing and developing essential critical thinking skills.
We engage educators through comprehensive training programs, develop innovative DBL resources, and foster a community dedicated to student success. Our initiatives bring active, hands-on learning to diverse K–12 classrooms.
